Description
Aluminum and Steel
Worldwide
50% for several metal products; 25% for certain derivative products
In effect
Since April 2026, the United States has revised the Section 232 regime. Products made entirely or almost entirely of steel or aluminum are generally subject to 50%, while several derivative products are at 25%. For certain Canadian products compliant with CUSMA, special rules related to U.S. content apply.
Copper
Worldwide
50% / 25% depending on the product
In effect
Copper is now integrated into the revised Section 232 regime. Certain copper products are subject to 50%, while several derivative products may be subject to 25%.
Softwood Lumber
Canada
Variable – approx. 22% to over 50% depending on the company, to which an additional 10% may be added under Section 232
In effect
Antidumping and countervailing duties vary by producer. Since October 2025, a 10% duty under Section 232 has also been added on certain softwood coniferous lumber. The latest official results available show countervailing duties of 12.12% to 16.82% and antidumping duties of 9.65% to 35.53%.
Vehicles
Worldwide
25%
In effect
A 25% tariff remains applicable to covered automobiles. For vehicles compliant with USMCA, the duty may be calculated solely on the value of non-U.S. content. Certain USMCA-compliant automotive parts also benefit from special treatment.
Upholstered Furniture, Kitchen Cabinets and Vanities
Worldwide
25%
In effect
The 25% tariff introduced on October 14, 2025 remains in effect. The scheduled increases as of January 1, 2026 — to 30% for certain upholstered furniture and 50% for cabinets and vanities — have been postponed by one year.
Canadian Products Covered by New Section 338 Measures
Canada
Up to 50%
In effect
The United States has imposed new 50% duties on a selection of Canadian products in response to certain Canadian policies. Products already subject to Section 232 duties are generally excluded from these additional duties.
Other Products Covered by USMCA
Canada
Generally no general additional tariff, but numerous sector-specific exceptions
In effect
USMCA compliance remains important, but it does not automatically protect against Section 232 sectoral tariffs or certain new targeted measures.
