+$19.7M to boost the exports of Quebec companies

January 30, 2025 – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (DEC) has announced financial support of $19.7 million to strengthen the export activities of Quebec companies. This initiative aims to improve the competitiveness and productivity of Quebec SMEs in an increasingly competitive global economy.

The Honourable Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, reiterated the Government of Canada’s commitment to support Regional Export Promotion Organizations (ORPEX) for a three-year period (2024-2027). This support includes enhanced non-repayable contributions, with $16.1 million dedicated to export activities and $3.6 million to support and guide the innovation projects of growing SMEs, as well as to support foreign direct investment.

During a roundtable with Quebec economic stakeholders, Minister Martinez Ferrada and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, discussed the importance of protecting the economy of Montreal and Quebec regions against U.S. tariff threats. The announced amount also includes support for Commerce International Québec, the ORPEX group, to ensure effective coordination of interventions to maximize economic benefits in all regions of Quebec.

” Commerce International Québec welcomes this funding announcement, which could not have come at a better time. The great period of uncertainty that our companies are currently experiencing reminds us of the importance of diversifying export markets. Developing a single new market can significantly increase a company’s average export value, up to fivefold. Thanks to DEC funding, ORPEX will have the necessary latitude to continue supporting companies in achieving their goals, notably by reducing the intensity of export obstacles for companies and helping them succeed in their export efforts.”              – Nadine Brassard, President, Commerce International Québec

ORPEX plays a crucial role in providing proximity and frontline services to Quebec SMEs, including personalized support, information on export markets, and connecting with key individuals. These services enable companies to take advantage of new market opportunities, better understand their export capacity, and develop action plans to penetrate foreign markets.

This initiative is particularly important in the current context, as it will help companies innovate, diversify their markets, and continue to grow.
